GD75232: Evaluation Module

Hi Team,

I would like to apply for the EVM of GD75232 for customer, but I cannot find it in ti.com.

Is there the Evaluation Module designed for GD75232? If so, where should I apply?

    There is no EVM. See figure 16 (and figure 10 for the capacitor values; typically 330 pF to stay below the RS-232 limit of 30 V/µs).

    Hi Silvia,

    There is no EVM for this device. 

    Is there a reason that your customer is interested in such an old RS-232 device ? Our newer transceivers are generally much better and easier to design with - also they don't need multiple  voltage sources to operate (this device requires 3 with power sequencing requirements).

    Can you recommend some newer transceivers which have EVM and similar functions to GD75232? It is even better if they are pin-to-pin compatible with GD75232.

    Hi Silvia,

    What is needed by customer? 

    Voltage supply, RS-232 bus voltage level, and  controller voltage? 

    Do they know how long their bus will be?

    We really only the 2 GDx5232 devices (GD75232 and GD65232) - so there isn't really a direct match. However we do have devices that match configuration (not pin-out - as this device has more sources required than the vast majority of our devices) and similar data rate - but I want to ensure that we can meet the needs of the application.

    There are very few RS-232 transceivers that use existing ±12 V supplies (the GD75232 is cheap and robust, the SN75C185 is low power). None of them have an EVM.

    There are many RS-232 transceivers that have integrated charge pumps to generate the RS-232 bus voltages from a single 5 V or 3.3 V supply. None of them have an EVM either. The TRS3243E has reference designs such as TIDA-00557, but this does not help you.

    You could put the GD75232N into a breadboard. (The datasheet circuit is simple enough, and there are no high-frequency problems.)
