DP83822I: Mean Squared Error register address

Part Number: DP83822I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83867E

Team, can you help with the below question:

could you provide us with the Mean Squared Error register address for the DP83822 PHY? As there are MSE threshold control registers, I imagine there must also be a hidden register for reading the current MSE status.

  • Hello,

I will need to check internally with the team regarding this. Please expect a response by EoD Tuesday 7/25/23.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hello,

The MSE register for DP83822 is Reg 0x218.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hey Gerome,

    A couple follow on questions:

    1. Does anything need to be set or commanded for that register to be valid?
    2. Do you know which bits of that register are the mean squared error? Is it the full 16 bits, just the lower 8, or something else?
    3. Is there a relationship between the value in that register and the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)?
    4. What are the expectations for the different values of that register? For example, is there a relationship between MSE and link quality similar to the relationship defined in SNLA246b for the DP83867E PHY?

    Regards,

    TDagostino

  • Hello,

I am looking to get this information for you, but will need some time. I expect an update by EoD Wednesday 7/26.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hi TDAgostino,

The register will work as follows:

    - The register is for channel A only.

    - For excellent link quality, the decimal value of the register shall be below 522.

    - For good link, the value shall be between 522 and 827.

    - For poor link, the value shall be above 827.

Please note that this register is an extended register and thus will need extended register access to read properly.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
