TCA39306: The electrical characteristic difference in Bus switching mode

Part Number: TCA39306

Hi Team,

My customer asked a question.

Regarding to the datasheet (chapter 9.3.1),  the difference between Vref1/2 connected VCC(Fig 8.5) and Vref1/2 connected GND(Fig 9-6) in bus switching mode is only power consumption and communication speed?

Is there any difference about electrical characteristic in this case?

Thanks,

Shoo

  • When the EN pin is controlled independently and not connected to any VREF, then the VREF1/VREF2 pins behave like a third channel. It does not matter what voltage they have, they have no effect on the other twochannels.

  • Hi Shoo,

    Clemens answered the question well.

The reference voltage pins really come into play when the level translation is desired. In the switch mode configuration, the VREF pins behave like a third channel, so tying them to GND has very little effect on the I2C bus pins and over all functionality.

    Regards,
