DS90UB928Q-Q1: Can the output LVDS signal be missing DE, HS and VS when paired with DS90UB947?

Part Number: DS90UB928Q-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB947-Q1

We are using a board to deserialize FPD-LINK III to LVDS then convert it to MIPI CSI2 signal. While it works fine with several upstream devices, it failed to produce image when used with an upstream device with UB947 as serializer. We tried with an OEM screen with UB928 as deserializer, and it can display image from the upstream device as well as the other ones we tried. We compared the peripheral circuits, and believe the hardware for UB928 of our board is the same as the OEM screen. We are using LT9211 downstream of UB928 to convert LVDS to MIPI CSI2. While it can get the PCLK, it cannot get the resolution of the LVDS signal, but when used with the other devices that do produce images, both PCLK and resolution can be obtained in LT9211. We think that the LVDS signal from the particular device do not have DE, HS, and VS embedded. Is that possible?  Or, is it just that we still need to configure UB928 hardware and/or software properly? Thank you.

  • Wei,

Generally speaking, 947 does output embedded HS/VS/DE signals as long as they were provided by the video source. But DS90UB947-Q1 doesn't necessarily require HS/VS signals to function, so it may be possible that the upstream video source is not sending HS/VS signals. For example, if the source is sending video with DE mode timing, then only the DE signal is used for generating the sync timing and HS/VS can be static low/high.

Devices which convert from RGB to CSI-2 typically require DE and VS signals at least in order to regenerate packet boundaries for the CSI-2 signal. So you may want to check what sort of video signal is being provided to the 947 upstream.

    Best Regards,
