TUSB9261: Oscillator Jitter spec

Part Number: TUSB9261

Hi team,

Related to the previous post, I’m still looking for oscillator that can meet the specs listed in section 6.8 of the TUSB9261 datasheet. But most of the oscillator’s datasheet does not state jitter parameter Tp-p. Would you please advice how to determine oscillator’s jitter? Is it possible to estimate from another parameter? How do we usually chose which oscillator to use?

Best regards,

Kurumi

  • Hi Kurumi,

The safest choice is usually the one that is present in one of our reference designs or EVMs.  Unfortunately, I don't see the crystal used in the TUSB9261DEMO EVM; however, you can still refer the TID-00882 reference design.

    Crystal: ECS-400-20-33-TR

  • Hi Nicholaus,

ECS-400-20-33-TR is crystal, but we are looking for oscillator. I believe it is different type of component.

How do we usually pick which oscillator to use, when there is jitter requirement?

    Best regards,

    Kurumi

  • Hi Kurumi,

My mistake.  I don't believe we have tested an oscillator.  However, the oscillator spec list is in the datasheet.  If a TI oscillator is being used, then it would be best to ask about that oscillator to see if it meets the jitter specs listed in the TUSB9261 datasheet as they would have more expertise on the subject.  Otherwise, you'll need to ask the manufacturer of the oscillator.

The total jitter spec inthe total jitter should be less than 25 ps, the random jitter should be less than 0.8ps and the peak-to-peak jitter should be less than 50ps.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus
