Hi team,

in NB design , should we connect VM and VPWR both to battery instead of PD LDO,

since we need this device be active right before we plug in to be prepare to protect, right?

which one do you recommend PD LDO or battery?

Hi Fred,

I recommend connecting to PD LDO, because in the dead battery case, the input power will need to come from the cable, the CC protection would be enabled by the 3.3V PD LDO directly at attach.

Hi Gautam,

back to TPD2S300,

datasheet recommend VM connect to battery,

but I wonder what if we plug typeC under dead battery condition,

is there a concern that VPWR(PD_LDO) is 3.3V already , but VM (battery voltage) is still not wake up yet ?

Hi Fred,

If the application needs low-resistance Vconn support (~1W), it is recommended to tie VM to the battery. See section 8.2.2.2.5 in the TPD2S300 datasheet for the explanation.

If low-resistance Vconn support is not needed, VM can be tied to LDO_3V3 from PD just like VPWR.

The important part is that VPWR is tied to LDO_3V3 so that as soon as the cable is connected in dead-battery mode, TPD2S300 turns on at the same time as PD.
