DS90UB940-Q1: BIST and CRC

Part Number: DS90UB940-Q1

hi team.

now customer have a  questions about FPD-LINK3 series deserializer CRC, such as 940, 948:

1. Is the BIST mode only entered at power-on initialization, and can it be entered in normal working mode?

2. Is CRC only read by the serializer in BIST mode backhaul, can the deserializer read it?

3. Functional safety requires real-time detection of line bit error rate, such as line quality degradation to reach the early warning value. Can it be read through the deserializer register? Or get it in real time by other means.

4. We use 940 to pair with 927, after power-on, only read 940 status operation in working mode, no write control, no follow-up operation. But the 927 report 940 keeps sending data on the IIC, how to check if the problem is on the 940 side?

  • Hi Colt,

    1. Is the BIST mode only entered at power-on initialization, and can it be entered in normal working mode?

Is is not enabled during normal operation. See 7.3.13.1 BIST Configuration and Status in the datasheet for information on how to enable BIST.

    2. Is CRC only read by the serializer in BIST mode backhaul, can the deserializer read it?

CRCs are sent on the backchannel, and these can be seen via register on the SER.

    3. Functional safety requires real-time detection of line bit error rate, such as line quality degradation to reach the early warning value. Can it be read through the deserializer register? Or get it in real time by other means.

What specific errors are needed to be detected? Link errors can be seen in register 0x41 LINK_ERROR_COUNT.

    4. We use 940 to pair with 927, after power-on, only read 940 status operation in working mode, no write control, no follow-up operation. But the 927 report 940 keeps sending data on the IIC, how to check if the problem is on the 940 side?

Can you confirm there is lock or link between the SER and DES?

    Regards,

    Ben
