TUSB216: TUSB216 trace length recommendation

Part Number: TUSB216

Hi,

Need your help with the following questions:

  1. Our total trace length from the USB controller to the end device measures approximately 9.5 inches, while the USB controller's specification allows only 1.18 to 2.95 inches between itself and the transceiver. Is it feasible to have trace lengths between TUSB216RWBR and the end device within the range of 6.5 to 8.3 inches?
  2. What is the maximum allowable length or loss between TUSB216RWBR and the end device?
  3. Should serial resistors be placed before TUSB216RWBR, after it, or required in both paths?

Best regards,

Randy

  • Hi Randy,

1.) Are the USB controller and end device on the same PCB? Could you possibly illustrate it with a block diagram? 9.5 inches should be fine for the TUSB216, as long as there are no connectors within the trace length.

2.) For traces, we do not have any spec'd max trace length, we only have a max recommended cable length, which is 5 meters.

3.) Which serial resistors are you referring to? We do not recommend having resistors in the path of the DP/DM lanes, aside from lane terminations.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Hi Randy,

Is there any feedback on this issue? Otherwise, I am closing this thread.
