SN65MLVD048: Max output current on R pins

Part Number: SN65MLVD048

Can you please tell me what the maximum output current is on the receiver single-ended output (R) pins is? Also, what is the output impedance of those pins? I'd like to impedance match the output network to maximize signal integrity.

Hello KB,

The output impedance will depend on the V_OH or V_OL of the device. R_OUT can be found using the equation below:

For V_OH, R_OUT = (V_CC - V_OH) / I_OH = (3.0 V - 2.4 V) / 8 mA = 75 Ω

For V_OL, R_OUT = V_OL / I_OL = 0.4 V / 8 mA = 50 Ω

I assume that means that the max output current is 8mA? Did I just miss this info on the datasheet or does it not say it?

Hello KB,

Maximum output current is not specified on the datasheet. The 8 mA current comes from the test conditions of V_OL and V_OH.

However, we are able to find the output impedance of the device by using the equation above.

Hello KB,

Like I said above, we don't spec max output current on this device. A good estimate for max output impedance is 75 Ω.
