ESD122: Short to VBUS protection

Hello team,

TI recommends TPD8S300 for USB-C because it has short to VBUS protection of 24VDC.

However, TI recommends ESD122 for TX RX pins, but ESD122 has no short to VBUS protection, although TX RX pin is placed next to the VBUS pin.

I am confused, why there is no need for Short to VBUS protection for TX RX pins?

    Hi Kei,

    Depending on the USB type (2.0, 3.0 ,3.1) used the data rate of the Tx/Rx lines could be too high for the TPD8S300 to support.

    The short to battery to Vbus protection requirement will be application dependent. There might be a short to battery IC with lower I/O capacitance that could support the higher data rates.
