TPD1E04U04: ESD part for 3.3V DSP

Part Number: TPD1E04U04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE, ESD321

Hi Team,

I have found that the lowest clamping voltage among TI ESD products is still above 5V, however, the absolute maximum rating of DSP like C2000 is 4.6V, I am wondering if we will have lower clamping voltage ESD part for 3.3V DSP?

Regards,

Charles

  • Hi Charles,

The 4.6 V rating of the C2000 is likely a DC absolute max rating unless otherwise stated in the datasheet. There is typically a few volts margin from the DC abs max and transient abs max voltage, since clamping voltage is a transient spec, a clamping voltage near 5 V could possibly still protect the C2000.

ESD321 will be our lowest clamping device with a 3.6 V working voltage. For an 8kV IEC ESD strike (16 A TLP = 8kV IEC ESD) this device typically clamps at  6.8V.

Looking at the TLP curve for ESD321 below, you can get an idea of the clamping voltages at different IEC ESD voltage levels since TLP current can be correlated with IEC ESD voltages. For instance, if you were expecting an ESD voltage of 2kV, you can correlate this to 4A TLP and you'll find the clamping voltage will be around 5 V.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Sebastian
