DP83869HM: Technical Clarifications regarding DP83869HM

Part Number: DP83869HM

Hi Team,

My customer is using DP83869HM for their 12 Ethernet and 12 optical links and they have few technical queries regarding the same as mentioned below. Can you please help answer those?

1) Can i use this IC for media conversion from ethernet to optical and vice-versa.

2) I have a ethernet data coming in and I need to convert it to optical and send it over SFP and vice-versa is it possible using this IC.

3) Does it require any FPGA or any device for media conversion or standalone can it do media conversion and is it media conversion Bi-directional.

4) what is the data-rate limitation of this conversion Ex: I have a 1GBps data coming in can i convert it to fiber.

Thanks,

Jash

  • Hi Jash,

    1. Yes, the DP83869HM can be used for media conversion from copper ethernet to fiber. Please set the mode to "1000Base-T to 1000Base-X" or "100Base-T to 100Base-FX" through strap settings.
    2. Yes, see above.
    3. No external FPGA is required. It is bi-directional.
    4. 1000Mbps or 100Mbps is the limit depending on whether 1000Base-X or 100Base-FX is used.

    Thanks,

    David
