TCAN1043A-Q1: Wake-up cycles via data bus

Hello, 

I am the module owner for CAN for a project. We have a requirement that states that all the components connected to the vehicle data bus should have a minimum 500.000 wake-up cycles via data bus. 

Can you please help me with this information for the TCAN1043GDRQ1 transceiver?

    I'm not sure I understand the requirement for 500.000 wake-up cycles here. There is not a limit to the number of times our transceiver can wake up to a wake up patterns (WUP) from the CAN bus. Such an act does not put any unusual stress on the device that would degrade it beyond typical use. 

    Do you know if this specification may be referencing a different parameter of the transceiver? Perhaps something to do with the wake-up timing?

  • It's not related to a parameter, the customer wants to have all communications reliable thus this requirement. They want to make sure that the components used does not fail after 500k wake-ups. If there is no additional stress from WUP, this means that the transceiver would work after 500k WUP (assuming someone is willing to test that)

    This is not something we would typically test as there is no reason to expect that the wake-up function would fail after a certain number of wake ups. This would fall under failure in time (FIT-rate) metrics as the most likely cause of failure would be normal degradation of use-over-life. 

    I have never seen an issue where this particular part of the transceiver function has failed after use. 

    Let me know if this is sufficient to address the customer's concerns.
