DP83869HM: Quad/ dual port transformers

Hello,

I noticed the magnetics requirements only require for the center taps on the side of the phy to be isolated. Because of this I am wondering if a structure such as the image I am attaching would work with DP8386HM if it fits all other requirements

Hi Karla,

We still recommend to use a transformer that can implement bob smith termination to the center tap of the connector side.

We did not have any data for the type of transformer you propose above on DP83869PHY.

Hi Karla,

As long as the transformer meet within the spec in the datasheet. This kind of transformer should be fine.

This has an insertion loss of 1.1dB... is the maximum 1.0dB?

Hi Karla,

I think the maximum insertion loss for you transformer loss is 1.1dB. This should be better than 1dB performance. So I think it should be fine.

I think more negative dB means better performance on the specification.
