TCA8418: Keyboard Scan Interface Chip

Part Number: TCA8418

Dear Technical Team

I am working on an existing design for an upgrade and found the current design uses TM1637 (Keyboard Scan Interface Chip) which seems non-reliable in terms of manufacture and supply chain. I would like to know if Texas Instruments offer a similar Keyboard scan interface chip where I can use in the upgrade design. As most of my design consists of TI chips with no issues in terms of stock and also reliable.

PS: I have found TCA8418EYFPR similar to the above, Could you please confirm if I can use this or suggest if there is any ?

Kind Regards

Dinesh Amara

  • Hi Dinesh,

The TCA8418 is the only I2C controlled keypad scanner that we offer in our team. While it may not be p2p compatible or maintain the same register sets as the TM1637, in general the TCA8418 should be able to satisfy the needs for a keyboard scanning chip.

I do recommend that you potentially look into the TCA8418E version. I am not so concerned that your system will need the added ESD protection, but I am more concerned about the errata fixes. The non-E version of the TCA8418 contains two errata both with the CAD interrupt and Overflow function. The "E" version fixes these two errata in case you don't want to deal with the workarounds in the non-E version.

    Regards,

    Tyler
