DS90UB948-Q1EVM: connection between between ds90uh948-q1evm & ds90ux949evm

Hi Emanuel,

I think issue might be related to PDB switch position. Please refer to the 948EVM user guide.

Please make sure S3.3 is set to high position. Then only device gets powered and respond to ALP. Also, please check other switches (S1, S2, S4) as well as jumpers are in correct default setting. 

If it doesn't help, please upload a photo of your board setup. (949&948) I would like double the check the jumpers and switches. Also, I assume you have 12V supply provided at J18 as shown in the EVM user guide. Please confirm.

Is there a way of telling ALP, which device is "partner device", or is it really fully automatic?

The default seems to be a ds90uH926, which is DHCP?

When ALP detects no valid lock, it puts out 926 as the default partner device. It is automatically connected when ALP detects the lock.

The only difference between us was the S3 switch, and my setup working fine. Only one thing needs to be checked J18 has not been clarified, please make sure it is left.

Also, could you confirm that you did PDB reset and after changing PDB switch?

If it is still not working even though my suggestion, please try with another HSD cable.

I tried few different cables already, and actually always did power down/up after changing any switches.

Now, in the default mode, is the clock coming from the ds90ub949 serializer, or do I have to connect a HDMI source?

You don't need to connect a HDMI source. If the setting is correct, you can see "Yes" on Linked to Deserializer of the information tab.

I set it up with the same settings, but I can see the link status and the partner information has been changed to 948. Can you check if your settings are different from mine? Please also check if the power supply 12V is properly provided on both sides.

Still not giving up ...

Uninstalled all ALP software, installed it again, with the patches ...

However, just noticed on the bottom of the board, that the assembly check mark says, is probably for a ds90ub929 chip?

Package I got says ds90ub949. But any chance, this board has some solder bridges/resistors wrong?

If the marking on the chip says 949, it would be fine. Only difference between 949EVM and 929EVM is DOUT1.

I did double-check with yours and mine, but I couldn't see any difference.

• What cable are you using? Note that it couldn't connect properly if the cable pairs are not corrected.
  
  
• Could you try if the setup (ALP-948-949) is working?
• Can you share what you see when you click "Scan Connected Devices"? Please share the screenshot of the entire ALP window.
• Please confirm that PDB pin is high and J18 is left? It would be appreciated it if you could share the top with better quality or zoom in.

Does it show only 948 even though you connected as ALP - 948 - 949,? If so, it means the cable could be an issue. I don't think it is the EVM hardware issue because you can detect them individually and all EVM setting is matched with my setting. Could you provide where you got the cable?

Those are "standard" cables we have in the shop here. I checked the continuity at the connectors, and that's how it looks at the bottom

Can you share the link to the shop? I think I need to check the cable pair.

The cable connector looks different from my own, so just worried about mismatching the pairs. I'm worried that the cable connector will not match because it's different from mine. Could you please check if the pair of each side of the cable is shorted as the reference below?
