TCAN4550-Q1: Regarding interfacing TCAN4550 on USB interface

Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550,

HI Team,

We are looking to interface TCAN4550 on USB interface(USB3.0) on processor. Request you to please provide proposed solution for this.

We are using LS1043A processor and dont have any interface to connect TCAN4550.

Regards

Manoj A

  • Hello Manoj,

The TCAN4550 requires a SPI interface to the processor.  I looked up the LS1043A block diagram and it shows that there are 4 I2C/SPI peripheral ports.  You will need to connect one of those SPI peripheral ports to the TCAN4550.

    Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan, We have only one SPI interface with 4 chipselect. in LS1043A but we SPI is multiplexed on EmmC 8 bit interface. We need to use SPI interface at cost of emmc interface of 4 bit instead of 8 bit. so want usb based ic or solution.

  • Hi Manoj,

There isn't another option for interfacing with the TCAN4550-Q1 other than SPI, and I am not aware of any other TI solution that would give you a direct USB interface to the TCAN4550 outside of finding a different processor that would support your SPI needs.

You might consider using a MUX on your SPI signals that would allow you additional SPI devices at the expense of a GPIO pin that would be needed to select the MUX switch state.  Just to give an example, the TMUX1575 is a 2:1 (SPDT) 4-channel mux that would support the 4 SPI signals in a single device.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
