TUSB4041I: Bus-powered setting

Part Number: TUSB4041I

Hi support team.

There was a comment in the past post below that bus-powered settings can be made.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/662376/tusb4041i-bus-powered-vs-self-powered-mode?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=tusb4041i%20negotiation#

How can I set bus power?

The reason I'm asking is because my customers have problems with their systems when they go into bus-powered mode, and I want to make sure they don't accidentally switch to bus-powered operation.

Best regards,

Higa

  • Hi Higa:

         what problem  your customer  has?

Bus-powered means hub 3.3v and 1.1v supplies are coming from Vbus voltage from the host connected.

Self-powered means hub 3.3v and 1.1v supplies are coming from voltage regulators on the hub board itself.

  • Hi Brian-san

    Thank you for answering.

I understand what you are saying.

My customer wants to make sure that a problem he had with another company's hub does not occur with a TI hub.

Other companies' hubs can be switched to bus-powered mode, but they require 500mA during negotiation with the host, which causes the host to cut off communication.

Therefore, we would like to take care of cases where the same problem occurs due to the TI hub being able to be set to bus power.

I found a post that says it is possible to set up bus power, so I would like to know how to set it up.

    Best regards,

    Higa

  • Higa:

Just like the other E2E ticket mentioned, Functionally you can configure the TUSB4041 as bus-powered, and it will have no issues; however it will not pass USB compliance tests since the descriptors will always report a self-powered configuration.

To set up bus-powered, you just use upstream port VBus as  supply source and convert 5v to 3.3v and 1.1v for hub supplies with LDO.
