TVS3300: Does Schottky diode need for the bidirectional configuration?

Hi all,

I would like to know about the configuration of TVS3300.

According to the Figure12 (4-20mA current loop) in the application notes of TVS3300, Schottky diode (D0) is located.

If I would like to use two TVS3300 for bidirectional Configuration, do I need a Schottky diode like a D0?

Hi Rysuke,

The purpose of the Schottky diode here is to prevent a reverse voltage build-up on the IC behind the device. This is meant to protect against current flowing in the reverse direction if the wires in the diagram are hooked up backwards. If there is no danger of a reverse wire event, there is no need for including this Schottky diode.
