DS90UB936-Q1: EVM Connection to 953 using STP

Part Number: DS90UB936-Q1

Hi Team,

My customer would like to test STP connection from a 953 EVM to a 936 EVM, it is my understanding that we don't have any default EVMs that can do this so I have tried to document all the changed that will be needed below. Can you help verify my understanding and offer suggestions to open questions?

1. A 953 and 954 board will need to be purchased

2. The 954 chip will need to be replaced with the drop in 936

3. Coax connectors will need to be replaced with STP connectors

- Can you please recommend a STP connector that is compatible with our 953/954 EVMs?

4. EVM termination will need to be adjusted as follows:

With the given EVM layout/configuration I'm not sure if these adjustments are actually feasible but please let me know of any insight you have.

Thanks,

David

  • Hi David,

The 953/954 EVMs do not have STP capability right out of the box because they were designed to test the most common use-cases (coax configuration).

The EVM layout is routed for coax, so they would have to download the EVM project files and rework the board design for STP support. They will need to replace the AC caps, have the serializer power on separately, and replace the connector with an HMTD connector.

    Regards,

    Cindy

  • Hi Cindy, can you share a link for the HMTD connector they should use? Also can you please confirm we don't have 936EVMs and the best path is to order a 954 EVM and replace the chip on it.

  • Hi David,

They can use the Rosenberger E6S20B-40MT5-Y. You can also look through the Rosenberger HMTD catalogue to find one that works for them. They should reach out to Rosenberger for feedback and proper footprint layout.

Correct, we do not have 935/936 EVMs, but they are drop-in compatible with the 953/954 EVMs respectively. Regards,

    Cindy
