DS280BR820EVM: KR to SFI conversion

Part Number: DS280BR820EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS280DF810

I am looking for a good transceiver that can do a KR to SFI conversion. For example an ASIC that has KR4 port that needs to communicate with a QSFP. Will this chip be an appropriate solution? Are there better solutions? Does the Eval board have a KR source and/or pattern generator? Or will I need a separate KR traffic source? Thank you, Ben

  • Hi Ben,

The eval board does not have a pattern generator, you will need to provide a traffic source.

Our devices can help with signaling level differences between specs (although I believe they are similar), but our devices are not protocol aware.  Because of this, we cannot "remove" the link training and auto negotiation that is typically found in KR applications by default.  However, if LT and AN can be disabled on your ASIC, then our devices may be a good fit for your application.  You might also consider DS280DF810.

    Thanks,

    Drew
