TUSB1004: Minimum value in datasheet of LAC-CAP

Hello, 

the minimum value of LAC-CAP is 0.4inches. See Figure 9-1 and Table 10-1.
This is in small layouts a big distance. 

So i checked the reference EVM board. The distance is also smaller as this value. 

How critical is it to route shorter distances as 0.4inch?
Why is this distance not realized as described?

    Hi Stefan,

    This is a good question, let me explain.

    The minimum distance shown in the datasheet is a guideline to reduce the effects of return loss. This is not a hard requirement, and you can place the AC capacitors closer to the TUSB1004.

    The further an AC capacitor is from the transmitting side of the device, the less return loss will come from the capacitor. This is because the AC signal will have a smaller amplitude when hitting the capacitor, so any reflection will be less powerful.
