Hi Experts,

We have used TCAN1051HGVDR Fault Protected CAN Transceiver with CAN FD in our design.

We need to do DVT testing of the same to validate Bus Fault protection.

Test setup as below:

Connecting External power supply between
- Case 1: “CAN1_HIGH” (+) and GND (-)
- Case 2: “CAN1_LOW” (+) and GND (-)
Set the DC supply to 60V current limit 10mA
Switch ON the External power supply (Need Switch ON duration for conduct the test without damaging the device)
Power OFF the external Power Supply.
Power ON Board Main Power Supply and check the CAN Transceiver sending and receiving data are same.

For the above testing condition let us know External Power Supply Switch ON duration to conduct the DVT test without damaging the device

The absolute maximum ratings do not specify a maximum time for the ±70 V limit; you can use whatever fault duration is reasonable for you. (How long until somebody notices that the forklift was parked on the cable?)

Palanikumar,

As Clemens mentioned, the Absolute Maximum Ratings in our data sheets apply without time constraint unless otherwise noted. Outside these ratings is when operation afterward is not guaranteed.

For valid testing, just ensure that the positive voltage at the device pin does not drastically overshoot. Your current limit should help, but it is possible for switched high-voltage signals/rails to have significant overshoot once connected. As far as applying a true 60 V to the pin, there is no time limit.
