DS90UB953-Q1: HS_PLL_LOCK not set

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Hi,

on one of our systems from time to time we get no HS PLL lock reported i.e. HS_PLL_LOCK (Register 0x52[2]) = 0. No other bits in the status register indicate that something is wrong like RX_LOCK_DETECT, LINK_LOST_FLAG, CRC_ERR or LINK_DET.

Any ideas why this can happen?

Regards,

Jura

  • HI Jura,

Thanks for your question. Quick clarification questions.

    1. What is the pairing deserializer?
      1. We can use this to see if the lock flag is indicating lock
    2. Is this at power up and stays low the whole time or does the bit go high at any point?
    3. Are you experiencing any system level issue? Like no image?
    4. How many systems are having this issue?
    5. How many system cycles are needed to see the issue?

  • 1. 954 deser

       a. 953 status register has RX_LOCK_ DETECT set and LINK_LOST_FLAG is not set.

    2. Goes high at some point

    3. Not sure

    4. For now reported on one customer system

    5. Don't know. Customer reports "occasionally observed".

  • Hi Jura,

Can we get a register dump on the 953 and 954 in a passing and failing state? This way I can look to see what the device is doing internally.

Just to confirm this is the only unit with this failure mode? Have you completed ABA swap on the953 device? To see if the failure mode follows the chip,

    Glenn
