SN65DSI83: using NC pins for easier layout possible?

Hello Team,

is it allowed to connect the NC pins to a clock-signal, power or ground? Can REFCLK be connected to the NC pins G1 and G2?

Are these pins internally connected to any signal, power or ground?

Hey Hans,

The NC pins are not connected to any source and should be left unconnected.

Hi Vishesh, yes this is also mentioned in the data sheet. But if they are not connected to any signal can't we use them to make an easier layout?

Are the pins pins G1 and G2 internally connected to power or ground?

Hey Hans,

Simply because there are too many unknowns regarding the NC pins. Some of which are floating, clamped to other pins, and driven to specific voltages. I cannot disclose more information regarding this due to NDA requirements.

How would using a NC pin make the layout easier? Could you provide an example? I'm struggling to see the benefit of using NC pins that aren't supposed to be connected.
