The only difference between the two devices is the VIO pin on the TCAN1044AV-Q1. The VIO pin level shifts the voltage thresholds for TXD, RXD, and STB based on what you supply to it. This is meant to be used for controllers that use 3.3V or 1.8V logic as opposed to 5V.
And yes, TCAN1044A-Q1 is p2p with TCAN1042-Q1.
