DP83867IR: Questions regarding implementing EtherCAT using TI ENET PHYs

Hey Ethernet team,

I have a customer evaluating our Ethernet portfolio for a new project and we were hoping that you could help to clear some things up for us.

They are currently testing with the DP83867I because they need a 100/1000 Based solution but they would also like to use it for EtherCAT. The App Note snla344c seems to recommend DP83826 for EtherCAT applications but it only supports 10/100 data rate.

Does your team recommend the DP83867I for EtherCAT applications or is there another PHY that you would recommend?

Hi Matt,

Thank you for asking.

From our understanding, EtherCAT only support up to 100Mbps. We recommend DP83826PHY for EtherCAT application because it can be used for EtherCAT application with only hardware configuration (No software required). DP83822 and DP83867 could also support EtherCAT application with software configuration.

May I ask is customer looking for EtherCAT-G application or EtherCAT application with 1Gbps communication?
