Hi,
I been designing this hub into one of the designs, what I would like to know, is if the layout of the components the planes are apropriate for low noise.
Layer stuck up
L1 - signal - red
L2 - gnd - green inverse
L3 - signal - dark orange
L4 - pwr - dark red
L5 - gnd - light blue inverse
L6 - signal - dark blue
I have a few design questions for the PCB which Im working on:
- Main power delivery - The main 5V is coming from an isolated power supply which is filtered is the layout apropriat? Just a 5v poligon 3.5mm from dc/dc and separate ldo and current protection for powering the external components?
- Type C power section - Regarding power which is sent to the devices from the host side, I have two version one a big plane under the type-c connectors, one with partial plane under the connectos and one possible is just use traces. Whihc is more apropriat to use, or what is more apropriat for low noise design?
- USB traceout - The USB signals are put on top and on bottom layer- is this appropriate for low noise, should it not be put in the middle layer? why ?
- Filters ESD on usb lines - Will I need filters or esd on usb lines, I read that if I have to mutch capacitance on the lines it will degrade teh signals, Im using (filter-DLM0NSM900HY2D, esd-USBLC6-2SC6) are these apropriat? The parts have to be easily to be populated on the pcb and available. Is there any better solution for FS/HS intrerface, or other more suitable comopnents, beter use the higher speed ones to have some margin?
- Placement of filters - Is there a better placemetn of the components, so that it is easier trace out.
- Type-c usb - Is ther a more suitable USB type-C connector which can be used, board thickness 1.6mm connector need to be strongly hold on the pcb, becouse of lot of havy usage. current type-c connector (10159872-00011LF)
- Layout - Layout recommendation for the Type-C connector using it just for 2.0 FS/HS speeds, do I need any other components to add, host will transmit 5V 50mA to external devices using type c cable, whihc will only use 2.0 communication no extra, do I need to add any components to the host or device side in case of this situation?
If you find any other issues in layout which I didnt mention fell free to mention it it would be a big help.
Host design
Device side design
Layout together with processor.
Robert:
stuck up is acceptable if you need 3 layers for signal.
Can we have a call to discuss your layout?

Brian
Brian,
Sure, let me know your availability I am flexible with my schedule and can accommodate a time that works best for you. Please provide a few options if possible.
Regards
Robert
Any time Tomorrow should be fine, what time zone you are at?
