DS560DF810: Data rate valid range (8GBd?)

Part Number: DS560DF810

Please, can I have more details about this:

"The data rate cannot be set to any value.  From the datasheet: All channels lock independently to both PAM4 and NRZ data rates from 19.6 to 28.9 GBd (including div-by-2 and div-by-4 sub-rates)."

What is exactly "including div-by-2 and div-by-4 sub-rates"?

I want to use this device a 8GBd, is it possible?

Thanks,

Juan

  • Hi Juan,

8 GBd signaling falls outside the CDR lock range of this device.  Can you tell me more about your use case?  We might have another device suitable for your application.  Is there a particular protocol that you're targeting?  Are you using NRZ signaling?  How much insertion loss do you need to compensate for?

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hello Drew,

We have a device transmitting in PM4 at 8GBd and we want to convert it to NRZ in order to receive it with a FPGA. We are interested in the PAM4-to-NRZ conversion feature. Please, let me know if you have alternatives for this.

    Thanks,

    Juan

  • Hi Juan,

Unfortunately, our DS560DFx10 retimers are the only retimers in our product portfolio supporting PAM4 signaling.  Since these do not support locking to 8 GBd signal, they would not be suitable for your use case.  The only path forward that comes to mind would be if you could somehow increase or decrease your datarate to either 7.225 GBd or 9.8 GBd.

    Thanks,

    Drew
