DS250DF410: Application question

Part Number: DS250DF410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS250DF230, , HD3SS3212, DS560MB410

Hi expert,

Customer is looking for 1:2 switch for 25Gbps Ethernet between Base-T and Base-CR.

What we learnt before is DS250DF410 or DS250DF230 might be potential options but it seems TI 25G retimer don't directly support BASE-T type interface.

So we are wondering can DS250DF410 or DS250DF230 be implemented for customer application and how? Or any other solutions to advise?

Regards,

Allan

  • Hi Allan,

I'm a bit confused, you mentioned that the customer is look for 1:2 switch for 25Gbps Ethernet between Base-T and Base-CR.  However, you attached a block diagram for what appears to be a USB-C application.  Can you clarify your needs?

Our Ethernet retimers and redrivers are designed for maximum VID/VOD of around 1000-1300 mVppd.  10GBase-T seems to have levels of 2000 mVppd or greater depending on the power level.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

There is the application on DS250DF410. Please support to check it available or not.

We want to use this as crosspoint to switch the serdes port (one ETH MAC) to different IO port.

i am not sure how to attached the photo on TI system, and i put the diagram as below.

    thank you

  • Hi Harry,

Adding the photo to the thread for reference.

The DS250DF410 will support 25GBase-CR/SR and USXGMII, so it would work in this application.  One thing I'd like to note is that DS250DF410 has a high boost even at CTLE index 0, so in order to prevent over-equalization, I'd recommend a minimum insertion loss of at least 3 dB prior to the retimer receiver.

You can simulate the device in your system using the IBIS-AMI model.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

Also curious is HD3SS3212 might be possible to fulfill the need?

    Thanks,

    Allan

  • Hi Allan,

I have not seen this device implemented in an Ethernet system before. HD3SS3212 might work, but is not able to apply any equalization to the signal.  This might be challenging for a front port application.

You might also consider DS560MB410, which is a linear redriver and is in the same package as DS250DF410.  It is able to compensate for channel loss through CTLE.  You could design a socket that supports both DS560MB410 and DS250DF410 and then make a decision on the device based on performance.

    Thanks,
    Drew
