DS160PR810: AC coupling caps on RX

Part Number: DS160PR810

Hi team,

My customer is referring to the following diagram in the datasheet as they are working on their design:

The diagram includes AC coupling caps on the RX side of the redriver, but PCIe spec says AC coupling caps are handled by TX pins.

Does our device require an additional AC coupling cap on the RX side?

  • Hi Ethan,

Thanks for reaching out. The DS160PR810 does not require an additional AC coupling cap on the RX side. As long as each channel of the transmitting PCIe device has an AC coupling cap (integrated or placed before the RX pin of the redriver), the PCIe AC coupling capacitor requirement is satisfied.

The diagram is slightly misleading, but shows the AC capacitors to ensure the engineer implementing the DS160PR810 is aware of the requirement for AC caps on each TX. For a clearer reference, the DS160PR810EVM-RSC User's Guide schematic (pages 16-19) show an example implementation of 4x DS160PR810 in a x16 configuration.

    Best,
    David
