DP83TD510E-EVM: MSP340 issue

So i soldered the MSP off the evaluation board and i'm not getting any connection  leds are not emitting any light and my pc is saying their is no connection

Yes , i was an i didnt make any changes to the board before or after, the only thing i changed was removing the msp

Do you have access to an external MSP launchpad? If so, this can be connected to the MDC/MDIO lines of the EVM for register access to debug.

If the application requires no on-board MSP, then this launchpad is recommended to externally access the PHY registers for debug.

Are you able to probe and see activity on the MDI / MAC lines?

No , i dont have access to MSP launch i was just trying to test, if i was able to run the same test without the msp , it seems like it can in theory but in this application the msp seems to control the communication going to the rj45 , so without it i cant run my test

Laptop -> EVM Board 1 -> (MDI) -> EVM Board 2 -> PC

For this setup, please probe the MDI line to see if there is activity.

It's possible disconnecting the MSP affected a strap or the power circuit,  are you powering the EVM with an external power supply or through USB?

I am powering it threw an external power supply

 yea removing this cut off my connecting with the rj45 side

The RJ45 MDI connection is direct to the DP83822, it is not dependent on the MSP.

I'm investigating if removing the MSP may have caused the device to strap into the incorrect mode.

Please share a scope-shot of the MDI / MAC activity.

 this is essential my setup , I didn't power the board in this instance but, when I do the led that appear when you plug in your ethernet port on the rj45 side doesn't light up anymore and the computer says Im not connected to anything.

It's possible the on-board MSP has an init script that configures the clock output of the DP83TD510 (RX_CLK, pin19) to the clock input of DP83822 (XI, pin23).

To verify if the EVM is still in the correct configuration after removing the MSP, please use R149 as a test point to see if DP83822 is receiving an 50M input clock from the DP83TD510 while powered:

Please also probe the DC voltage across RBIAS (R121) while powered and verify a non-zero voltage to confirm the DP83822 is powered.

im not getting 50MHZ, i am getting 120khz and for R121 im getting 1V ,so its powered . I measured a board with the msp on the board and im getting 427hz

Hi Yaw,

This result is strange. The EVM default straps set DP83TD510E in RMII master mode, and DP83822 in RMI slave mode. These modes results in the DP83TD510E sending a 50M clock input to the DP83822.

I will spend time in lab replicating this setup so I can share results with you to compare.

Okay all you have to do is remove u9 from a fresh board to replicate

Please try replicating the power and jumper configuration in my test setup. I am seeing 50M clock when probing R149, although the capture shows reflections due to imperfect termination.

Please also confirm the resistor modifications in the user's guide were performed (removing R199/200, and changing R24 to 0ohm)
