SN65MLVD200A: can it support hot-swap?

Part Number: SN65MLVD200A

Hi Team,

just want to check if  DS91C176TMAX/NOPB and SN65MLVD200ADR can support hot swap. Thanks.

  • Hi Given,

Both devices don't include any specialized circuitry for hot-swap. Plugging in any unpowered device into a powered bus will introduce new capacitance into the bus which would force current into the capacitance to be charged.

The best case scenario is if the receivers and transmitters were disabled when the hot-plug event occurred. This would ensure any glitches that appear on the cable side won't make it over to the logic/interface side.

As long as the hot plug event does not violate the absolute max rating for the devices, they will not be damaged. (Datasheet shows -1.8V for the A&B pins for example).
