SN65HVD485E: Digital Isolator Selection

Part Number: SN65HVD485E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO3082, ISO1432, ISO6741, ISO7741, ISO6721, ISO7721

Hi,

I am working on an RS-485 interface design. I am looking for a digital isolator that is compatible with the Tx and Rx pins of the SN65HVD485E tranceiver. I want to draw the Tx and Rx lines on the UART side of the SN65HVD485E as differential pairs, but the pins of most digital isolators on the market are crossed. This makes it very difficult for me to draw the paths as a differential pair.

Can you recommend a suitable digital isolator?

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your question.

There are 2 solutions that could be a suitable options for you:

    1. The first option is to use an isolated RS-485 transceiver, such as the ISO1432 or ISO3082 device families. Please check the Isolated RS-485 product selection guide to see the different devices: Isolated RS-485 transceivers product selection | TI.com
      1. Please feel free to check this product overview for more information on using the isolated RS-485 device: Isolation for RS-485
    2. The second option is to use a digital isolator by itself.
      1. If you would like active control over the RE and DE pins on the transceiver, then the ISO6741 (50Mbps) or ISO7741 (100Mbps) are both great options
      2. If the RE and DE pins are tied together and not required for active control, the ISO6721 (50Mbps) or the ISO7721 (100Mbps) are also great options
