TCAN1463-Q1: Quiescent current spec (VSUP current during Sleep mode)

Hello team,

I have a question regarding the quiescent current into VSUP pin during Sleep mode and how the specification in the datasheet can be interpreted.

In section 7.7 the current I_SUP_Sleep is specified with typ 18µA and max with 30µA. The test condition is in Sleep mode. But the general description mentions that V IO = 3.3V and Vcc = 5V, which would not be present in Sleep Mode. Is the spec also valid for VIO = 0V and VCC = 0V?

It is the same with picture 7-3, where several curves are shown for the current according to the input voltage of VSUP.

Are the values in the diagram typical values and how is a typical value defined (e.g. 3 Sigma)?

  • Hi Michael,

    The test conditions for this parameter had the Vcc and Vio supplies in their recommended range for characterization. However since these supplies are not used while the transceiver is in sleep mode, they do not have any significant impact on the Isup current consumption in this mode. So when Vcc and Vio are 0V as they would typically be in a system while in sleep mode, the Isup behavior will match the behavior of the characterized Isup in the datasheet. We have evaluated this on bench and confirmed this is the case even though it not explicitly listed on the datasheet.

    One last question. Is the typical value given as 1-sigma or 3-sigma value or is it defined differently?

    We have 1-sigma and 6-sigma values in our characterization data separate from the typical value. The typical value listed is the value measured under typical application conditions given the test setup described in the datasheet.

    6-sigma would apply to the min/max values?
