Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869, DP83867IR
Hi,
In our new project, we need two DP83867 conencted through MDI interface. Does DP86837 support single cap isolation connection between one DP83867 and another DP83867? See the diagram below.

Hi Wang,
Unfortunately, DP83867 does not support capacitive coupling. If you are looking for capacitive coupling please refer to following lists:
If you are looking for single back to back solution, we also recommend the following0 processor:
<-RGMII-> DP83867 < -SGMII-> DP83867 <-RGMII-> Switch

But DP83867 doesn't support SGMII interface,right?
We did this connection before on our previous project, but just for 100M etherenet. Only the TD_A and TD_B are connected.
The 2.5V here is requested by the PHY inside the Broadcom switch. Does that mean the captive coupling is supported only for 100M Etherenet for DP83867?
My project needs back to back connection between two DP83867. 100MHZ ethernet connection should be OK. I didn't find the SGMII interface on DP83867.
HI Wang,
Sorry for the confusion. You are right, DP83867 does not support SGMII. Unfortunately, DP83867PHY does not support capacitive coupling this will disturbed the signal quality on DP83867PHY. 2.5V pull only means Broadcom switch is current mode driver instead of voltage mode driver. This does not have any indication on it can support capacitive coupling.
DP83869 could support capacitive coupling. If possible, you can take a look on the device DP83869. It also support SGMII communication.

Hi, Hillman
I found a related question that answered 5 years ago. See the link below.
Our project is similar. We're working with a processor that has a lot of legacy with the DP83867 for our project, so we're reluctant to change to another new PHY. We can support 100M ethernet only. Can we directly connect DP83867IR TD_P/M_A and TD_P/M_B pins with AC coupling capacitors for DP83867?
The two DP83867 will be on the same board. The distances between each other is quite short.

Hi Wang,
I double check with the team internally. Unfortunately, we still did not recommend customer to use DP83867 in transformerless application.
For transformerless application we have DP83869, DP83825, DP83822, DP83826, and DP83848.
