SN65HVD3088E: NS Package 14-pin

Part Number: SN65HVD3088E

Dear Technical Support Team,

I'm considering to replace from SN75ALS181NSR to SN65HVD3088ENSR.

www.ti.com/.../

According to datasheet on Figure 5-2, NS Package(14-pin) has ZY(10,Y).

However "8.2 Functional Block Diagram" and "Table 8-1. Driver Function Table" shows AB.

Do they have same meaning between ZY and AB?

Best Regards,

ttd

  • For a full-duplex transceiver, A/B are inputs and Z/Y are outputs. RS-485 calls the bidirectional signals A/B, but they are the same as the Y/Z signals, so it does not really matter. I guess the pinout in the SN65HVD3088ENSR datasheet was copied from a full-duplex transceiver, where these pins are outputs.

  • Hi ttd,

So Y/Z are equivalent to A/B on standard half duplex devices.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention as we did not catch the typo in Table 8-1 as it should also be corrected to where "A"  is changed to "Y" and "B" is changed to "Z".

Clemens is correct as to why the reason the device uses "Y" and "Z" instead of "A" and "B"  - its based off a standard NS full duplex package - but the SN65HVD3088E is a half duplex device. Essentially we have two potential replacements (half duplex and full duplex) for the SN75ALS181NSR which is a full duplex device - however many end users were using that as a half duplex device so we spun a version of the SN65HVD3088E in the NS package and left 12/11 no connect to meet the "half duplex" use case of the SN75ALS181NSR.

I will be honest I wouldn't generally pick the SN65HVD3088ENSR unless you are replacing the SN75ALS181NSR that's being used as a half duplex device as all of the SN65HVD3088E other package options are generally more reasonable in solution size.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
