DP83869HM: Query on DP83869

In our project there is requirement that two boards with atmel processor and phy is TI phy chip DP83869HMRGZT ,this to be operated in fiber mode alone.We need our boards to communicate with only Tx line connected and Rx removed. So, is it possible to configure the PHY registers to operate in Transmit mode alone.In one of our existing product we are using TI DP83869HMRGZT  with the processor AM3356BZCZA60 for FO(ST) communication. And, we have a requirement to communicate with only Tx line connected and Rx removed. So, is it possible to configure the PHY registers to operate in Transmit mode alone.

    Hi Verra,

    I am not sure if I understand your questions completely. Are you asking you want to only connect SOP/SON (TX lines) on the fiber connection? If possible could you provide a block diagram for further calrification?

    Hi Hilman,

                 We have a main board which has processor AM3356BZCZA60 Atmel processor and top of it an add on card with TI phy chip DP83869HMRGZT is used and we need to use only TX lines of and disable the RX lines ,FO(ST) communication and ping should happen with the TX line alone.

                     I have attached the block diagram above and the requirement is board1 should only transmit data and should not receive any data.

    Hi Nagalakshimi,

    Theoretically it should work by only connecting the transmitter side of the fiber as long as fiber is able to link up. Unfortunately, we don't have data for this unique use case, therefore customer must validate this case themselves.

    Hi Hilman,

                   I am struck with these testing for a week can you suggest some register names to be used to test only transmit mode of fiber DP83869HM connecting only SOP/SON lines and transmitting data in fiber and also is it possible to do unicast mode and what is the name of register or any other setting to enable unicast mode.

    Hi Nagalakshmi,

    Unfortunately, we don't have much knowledge of only using transmit mode of fiber on DP83869PHY for communication but we will try our best to help you.

    If possible, could you read register 0x0001, 0x0C01, and 0xC19 to see if you are able to see link by only connecting SOP and SON?

    May I ask did you also have a signal detection connection? (SD connection)

    If possible, could you probe the SON and SOP pins to see if it is transmitting some signal?
