PCA9306: Voh, Vol, Vih, Vil

Part Number: PCA9306

Hi,

We are using PCA9306 in our design. For checking the DC analysis, the Noise margin data are not mentioned in datasheet.

Request you to provide Voh, Vol, Vih, Vil details for this IC.

Mani

  • Hey Mani,

The PCA9306 is a passive translator that performs level shifting through an internal passFET. As a result, there aren't any logic thresholds (VIL/VOL/VIH/VOH) parameters since it does not decode the voltage high/ voltage low states. For input signals below VREF1, the switch is closed and appears as a small Ron value between the input and output. For input signals above VREF1, the switch is open and the inputs and outputs are isolated from one another. The external pullups will allow the signals to pull up to the desired VCC.

The VIL/VOL levels are directly dependent on the external pullups and the amount of current sinking into your system. You may also see this app note on how to further select the appropriate pullup value.

    Regards,

  • HI Jack

I have concern when the switch is open.

Below screen is the typical application circuit in the datasheet. for SCL1/SDA1 side, the I2C controller can not output the voltage more than VREF1 because of  controller's open drain driver.  What's the transition voltage level for both side?

    Thanks

  • The EN biasing circuit makes the gate voltage of the pass transistor VREF1 + Vthreshold. So the transistor switches when the voltage at any I/O pin reaches VREF1. (The transistor is symmetric, so the thresholds on both sides are the same. You get different output voltages only because of the pull-up resistors.)
