Hello Team,

My customer need design an network TAP like below.

Please see if this architecture and SN65LVP114 device selection is reasonable and feasible, or if you have any other recommended solutions, thank you.

1. Packets sent from the Router to the Switch are sent from Network B and Monitor A after entering Network A
2. Packets sent from the Switch to the Router are sent from Network A and Monitor B after entering Network B

They don't want to use an Ethernet switch to do this, as this would introduce a large forwarding delay.

They envisage a product architecture based on SGMII signals as follows:

1). Just to make sure I understand this application correctly, SGMII MAC either talks to the switch or router?

2). Or perhaps simultaneously SGMII MAC talks to both router and the switch?

Which one is correct? 1 or 2?.

Hello Nasser,

SGMII MAC will only be used to receive packet sent between router and switch, and will never send packet to any of them.

Yes i believe SN65LVCP114 can be used in its 1:2 demux mode. Please note table 2. Where we have OUTPUT PORT A and OUTPUT PORT B both using IN_PORT_C(3:0) we are broadcasting input to both MAC and the router or switch. In summary, router TX will go to input port C90) and then it is broadcasted to both switch AND MAC. Another input port c can be used to do the same but for switch.

If DS100MB203 could be used to replace SN65LVCP114 when we have only dual QSGMII port to TAP?

Greetings,

MB203 is pure 1:2 mux. It means it is either one output or the other. But i think in your application we need both outputs active - being fed from the same input. So this is why i thought LVCP could be a better option(as you had suggested).
