I have tried the same procedure for 0x1F as we used for 0x561h Reg.. I observed that the link loss counter is showing always zero even after we make link down multiple times..i there any step am i missing?

Hi Hanamantappa,

That is odd, I am seeing the register 0x561 increment on my EVM. Are you accessing 0x561 using the correct extended register steps? Here are the correct steps:

1. Set 0xD=0x1F

2. Set 0xE=0x561

3. Set 0xD=0x401F

4. Read 0xE

These steps can be found in "Table 8-24. Register Access Summary" in the datasheet.

Yes we are doing the same.

Earlier link loss counter is incrementing when we make link down. but we are unable to reset to zero. as per your suggestion i tried 0x1F=0x8000. after this 

counter is always showing zero even we make link down

What is this register being used for? Is it possible to use the link status register as an alternative for your application?

In our application we are checking  how many times link is down using link loss register and also we are trying to reset the link loss counter after some threshold .

as already mentioned we are unable to do reset the link loss counter register.

I tested this with our EVMs and the counter resets and increases during link down when I write 0x1F=0x8000.

Note that 0561 will only increment if link is up first and then it goes down. 

How are you creating link down? Is there an LED indication?

There should also be a link register 0x1 that shows link down. Is this register toggling between 0x65 and 0x61?
