TMUXHS4412: Product recommendation request

Part Number: TMUXHS4412
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3DV642-Q1

Hi,

The customer is designing a car USB CHARGR ASSY.

Two USB-C connectors can connect the DP cable.

When connecting the DP cable, I want to connect only 1 by AVN.

Please recommend a suitable 2:1 Mux switch product.

  • Hi Cho,

The TMUXHS4412 could work for this application. It provides 4 channel MUXing for signals like DisplayPort up to 20Gbps.

Here is a diagram for this MUX showing how the 4 channels are handled

Just to be sure, I have a couple questions about your application.

    1. What common mode voltage would the signal have? (connecting to the AVN)

    2. Are you using a PD controller to negotiate DP ALT mode on the Type-C ports?

    3. Do you plan to use USB data on the Type-C ports or DP only?

    4. Do you need an automotive qualified part? The TMUXHS4412 is not Q1 qualified so this may change the recommendation.

    Best,

    Shane

  • Hi Shane,

I'm sorry for the late response.

    1. What common mode voltage would the signal have? (connecting to the AVN)

It is not connecting to AVN. It is needed to check with OEM.

    2. Are you using a PD controller to negotiate DP ALT mode on the Type-C ports?

    Yes.

    3. Do you plan to use USB data on the Type-C ports or DP only?

USB Type-C port is included in PD3.0 45W charging & USB2.0 data & DP. Dual USB both.

    4. Do you need an automotive qualified part? The TMUXHS4412 is not Q1 qualified so this may change the recommendation.

Yes. I need automotive qualified part.

  • Hi Cho,

    Thanks for following up.

USB Type-C port is included in PD3.0 45W charging & USB2.0 data & DP. Dual USB both.

From this description it sounds like the USB port will use PD charging, USB2.0 data and DP only (no USB3.0 data).

Consider using the TS3DV642-Q1. This is an automotive qualified MUX made for DisplayPort signals up to 6Gbps. Here is a diagram for this MUX in a DP application

Keep in mind that this MUX will support a differential common mode voltage up to 3.6V. If your signal is outside of that range, you would need to AC couple the differential pairs.

    Best,

    Shane
