DP83869HM: Copper SFP module not functional

Part Number: DP83869HM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

Hi,

I use the DP83869HM reference on 2 identical boards.

The DP83869HM is used between a 1000BASE-T ethernet interface and a SFP interface (copper or fiber).

On the first board, a copper SFP module and a fiber SFP module are functional.

On the second board, only the fiber SFP module is functional and not with a copper SFP module.

I see that the marking is different on the DP83869HM components.

On the first board, the marking is below

On the second board, the marking is below

Do you know why the copper SFP module is functional on the first board and not on the second board ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Best regards

  • Hi Arnaud,

How are you checking copper SFP functionality? Is it just only with link? Can you try ABA swapping devices to ensure that the 2019 version of DP83869 is always working while the 2023 version of DP83869 is having issues?

There has been a silicon revision of the device, and this can be confirmed by reading Reg 0x3 on both devices.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hi Gerome,

The copper and fiber links have been tested with the same switch. The reference is 1920-8G JG920A (Hewlett Packard).

The reference of copper SFP module is SFP1000TXST (StarTech).

I don't have ABA swapping device.

I understand that with the new silicon revision can be the reason that the copper SFP module is not functional. You confirm ?

    Best Regards

    Arnaud

  • Hi Arnaud,

It is still unclear how you are testing functionality. Can you please clarify?

Is all versions of 2019 devices acting in this manner, while all versions of 2023 devices exhibit this behavior?

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
