TDP1204: The most low Iq solution in modern standby mode of Windows

Part Number: TDP1204

Hi team,

Customer designs PC with TDP1204 as HDMI source, and wants to reduce current consumption in modern standby mode of Windows, though it is connected to sink.

I have three solution, but please answer questions below?

Solution 1: No control

From the datasheet, if the device left uncontrolled in modern standby mode, which parameter becomes the power consumption?

Solution 2: EN pin assertion

If the device EN is asserted to low, power consumption is 16uA x 3.6V = 576uA?

When EN is asserted to High after low power mode, does the device need any start-up sequence?

Solution 3: Power off by load switch

If VIO or/and VCC is disconnected by load switch, the Power-On Timing Requirements must be followed, is it correct?

Best regards,

Hayashi

  • Hello, Hayashi,

The TDP1204 has a low power consumption which depends on how many lanes are active and which data rate you are supporting:

    – 12G FRL four lanes active limited: 575 mW

    – 12 G FRL four lanes active linear: 220 mW

    – Power down: 0.6 mW

    - Power in standby:

As mentioned above, the TDP1204 has two low power states: Power Down and Standby. Here is some information from the datasheet that explains in-depth about how these modes of entered or exited:

Table 8-21 in the datasheet lists both lower power states. Power down is entered when HPD_IN is low for tHPD_PWRDOWN or in I2C if PD_EN bit is set. Power down is also entered when the EN pin is low. The TDP1204 will exit power down to the standby state when HPD_IN is high for tHPD_STANDBY.

The TDP1204 implements a two stage standby power process when HPD_IN is high.

Stage 1: if there is no signal (electrical idle) on the IN_CLK lane, and if HDMI 1.4/2.0 or IN_D2 if HDMI 2.1, then the TDP1204 will enter Standby State within tSTANDBY_ENTRY.

Stage 2: if a signal is detected which last longer than tSIGDET_DB, then TDP1204 will declare a valid signal and exit standby within tSTANDY_EXIT.

    • If a signal is detected, then the TDP1204 will go into normal active operation and signals present at IN_CLK and IN_D[2:0] inputs will be passed through to the OUT_CLK and OUT_D[2:0] outputs.

    • If it is determined that no signal is present, then the TDP1204 will reenter stage

The TDP1204 will exit standby state and immediately enter active state if LTP1, LTP2, LTP3, or LTP4 is snooped while monitoring status flags at SCDCS offset 41h or 42h.

The TDP1204 will exit normal operation and return to the standby state within tSTANDBY_ENTRY anytime electrical idle is detected.

As far as control goes, you can use either the EN pin in pin-strap mode or PD-EN in I2C mode but this is just dependent upon the customer's preference.

    Thanks,

    Zach
