Hello

Need assistance on the following issue of "Device not Connected" for DP83867IRPAP-EVM.

I am in the process of programming the Registers in DP83867IRPAP-EVM using MSP430F5529LP Launch PAD through USB-2-MDIO.

The following steps are done.

1. Followed through USB-2-MDIO Software Tool (ti.com)

2. Did Flash the MSP430F5529LP Launch pad using Uniflash with 7357.msp430-usb-to-mdio-universal-v3.04.txt => Success.

3. Powered and Connected the PINs 4.1 (MDC) and 4.2 (MDIO) of the MSP430F5529LP to the respective PINs ( MDIO : 37 and MDC : 39) of DP83867IRPAP-EVM.

4. When Register Read/Write is initiated through USB-2-MDIO, It says "Device not Connected" as shown below.

Please let me know what is missing in this setup and how do we fix this "Device Not Connected" ?

Hi Krish,

Could you double check on another PHY ID and see if other PHY ID is able to read the register?

I tried all the PHY_IDs and none of them are available.

Could you make sure the PHY is power up first before the MSP?

Yes, I did power UP the PHY first before the MSP.

But, I still get "Device not connected" message when I read/write a register.

Hi Krish,

Just want to make sure the PHY is bring up properly.

Could you see if you the PHY is able to link up with link partner?
Could you also probe CLK_OUT pin make sure it has signal coming out?

Hi Hillman

I did follow through the following "Quick Setup" Guide.

I did connect the Ethernet Cable at RJ45. Now, I can see the LINK_LEDs does light up.

The CLK_Out is coming out successfully.

I did Flash the Launch PAD using the 7357.msp430-usb-to-mdio-universal-v3.04.txt. Is this the latest version ?

If could suggest the correct flash file, let me know.

Also, Do you see any connection issue ( p4.1, p4.2 ) in the above board setup between Launch PAD and EVM ?

Still, I am getting the "Device Not connected" message.

Hi Krish,

It seems like your EVM is functioning other than MDIO communication.

Yes, the 3.04 is the latest version that we used for MDIO access.

One more thing I would like to check the device manager under the ports session? Make sure you are using the correct port number.

Pls explain why is this ? Do we need to supply 5v through USB and another 3.3v supply ???

Hi Krish,

Launchpad only need 5V power supply. There is an internal LDO that will pull the voltage down to 3.3V VDDIO.

The connection 4.2 on MDIO and 4.1 on MDC with common ground between launch pad and DP83867PHY.

The next step would be probing MDIO and MDC lines and see if you are able to receive clock signal on MDC lines.
