Hello,

I am trying to apply it to AM2634 Ethercat SDK using DP83822.

I would like to know what requirements are required by DP83822 PHY in Ethercat.

I think I need to know it so I can change the register value.

In the EtherCAT SDK, functions such as enable_mii, soft restart, auto_mdix, verify_identifier_register, etc. are implemented.

If similar functions are implemented on DP83822 as found in the EtherCAT SDK, will EtherCAT operate correctly?

Hello Sygo,

Thank you for contacting us. I am an Applications Engineer for the Ethernet team and can help you find the correct settings for the DP83822 to function in an EtherCAT application. Please refer to SNLA344C. While this app note is for the DP83826, which will have different register configurations and strapping, the PHY requirements listed will be the same for the DP83822. Examples would be enabling MII Mode, Auto-negotiation, Auto MDIX, etc.

For questions regarding the EtherCAT SDK, please refer to the AM26 team.

In SNLA344C's DP83826 Register Setup,

Is it possible to use it in EtherCAT if you set the registers as it is?

Hi Sygo,

For all ethernet PHYs, not just ours at TI, Register 0x0-0x1F are standard and defined by IEEE. These will behave the same between different PHY devices. However anything beyond 0x1F is up to the manufacturer.

I would not recommend blindly following the DP83826 register configuration for use with the DP83822.

Instead I would recommend reading and understanding what each register write is doing by referencing the Section 9.5 Register Map of the DP83826 data sheet.
Once this is done, you can find the correct registers for the DP83822 in Section 8.6 Register Maps of the DP83822 data sheet.
