TCAN1145-Q1: TCAN1145-Q1 using for high speed CAN(ISO11898-2) bus

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1

Hello Expert,

My customer is designing circuit with TCAN1145-Q1 for CAN FD bus.
From the view point of design diversion, they are considering to use it for Classic CAN bus as well.

For this diversion, is there any specific concern or key point for register configuration and schematics design?

Best regards,
Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hi Kuramochi-san,

TCAN1145 is a CAN FD transceiver and it can support classical CAN as well without changing any configuration or schematic. The difference between CAN FD and classical CAN is only the formatting of the frame. Determining a CAN FD vs classical CAN message is controlled by the controller so it doesn't matter on the transceiver side.

    Regards,

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand that they don't need to add any modification between CAN FD and classic CAN(against FDF packet)

    Best regards,
