SN65MLVD204A: SN65MLVD204AD Cause of failure

About SN65MLVD204AD As shown on the left The 7th pin (B) of IC39 is To pin 6 (A) of IC11, The 6th pin (A) of IC39 is I accidentally connected it to pin 7 (B) of IC11. Both IC39 and IC11 failed. *The red part is the cable between the boards. SN65MLVD204AD is Will it be damaged due to incorrect connection? Please let me know the reason. To identify the cause of failure Is it possible for you to analyze the failed IC?

    Having A-B connections swapped for a MLVDS receiver wouldn't damage the device, it's TTL output would just be inversed/inverted when the MLVDS driver is active (both when it is receiving and when it is sending).

    How are you able to determine the device is damaged? What kind of fail signature are you seeing? Any scopeshots after the damage occurs?

    My guess here is maybe if you connect when the other boards are powered, you could get some kind of inductive kickback if a driver is active and an overshoot/undershoot occurs that goes outside of the absolute max rating that we spec. 

    Do you have scopeshots of pins during the damage event?

    Do you have a schematic that we can review?

    To identify the cause of failure Is it possible for you to analyze the failed IC?

    The assumption here is that the part has been damaged by an EOS event. We don't do analysis on these kinds of failures because it usually just shows burn marks/melted metal traces on the die and doesn't tell us where or how they were damaged.
