DS250DF230: Register Access Questions

Part Number: DS250DF230

<converting from email>

 We are using DS250DF230 retimer in our board , one each for Tx and Rx path.

 I have SNLU182G_Programmers_Guide, my question is  how do we access the different register   to read/write TX settings, Rx settings, read internal Eye (HEO,VEO)    ?

   Is it by SMBus   or I2C  ?

   Previously I understand juniper had used GUI called SIGCON . Can  SIGCON tool be used for DS250DF230 to read/write TX settings,start/stop PRBS, PRBS BER, dump dfe Rx settings, read internal Eye (HEO,VEO)     ?

   What is external device to interface system board to laptop with SIGCON GUI . Can you pls give some details.

  • Hi,

    DS250DF230 registers are accessed via SMBus. SMBus is generally compatible with I2C devices. I suggest you read this app note SLOA132, which explains SMBus Compatibility With an I2C Device.

    Yes, the SigCon Architect GUI can be used to read/write DS250DF230 SMBus registers and modify various internal settings. A USB2ANY interface adapter is necessary to connect between the SDA/SCL/GND pins of DS250DF230 and a USB port on your PC.

    Best,

    Lucas
