MAX232E: IBIS modelling

Part Number: MAX232E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3232E, MAX3232

Customer needs an IBIS model for the MAX232E.

We see that there is a model for the MAX3232E.

Is it accurate to use the MAX3232E IBIS model in leu of a model for the MAX232E?

If not, can we get an IBIS model for the MAX232E?

Do you have another model to suggest that could work?

Thanks!

-Steve

  • Hi Steve,

The cable side drivers would differ a bit.

The output of the MAX232E has a larger swing on DOUT to +/-7V while the MAX3232E has a DOUT swing of +/-5V.

I looked at several of the 250kbps RS232 devices but didn't see any of them to have an IBIS model for them. It seems like we don't generally make IBIS models for these devices. One reason why I was told they aren't generally done is because the IBIS models don't accurately model the device's behavior.

  • Hello Bobby,

We are specifically looking for IBIS models of the CMOS/TTL drivers (ROUT/DIN).

    Thanks!

  • Hi Garrett,

In that case the MAX3232 IBIS model should work fine for CMOS/TTL. Please go ahead and use that as a substitute.
